Fall 2003

Greetings Folks!
Wow it is November!
I had a wonderful autumn, the boys are getting big. Running and talking like crazy. Whew!
Audrey is a joy. Lost her first baby tooth. Seems like she just got them. Time flies they say. They are not joking!
Felicia keeping her troops at the high school in line. The troops at home also.
Made my Village Vanguard debut w/ the mighty Buster Williams and a his great band w/ Steve Wilson and George Colligan. Talk about a good time!!
Explored w/ Andrew Hill trio w/ the great John Hebert in Spain. A total inspiration! Look for more of the trio!
Rode the wave with the Turbanator Dr. Lonnie Smith at the Detroit Jazz Festival. Woo hoo!!
Had a splendid time at the Algonquin Oak Room with Eric Comstock, Bill Henderson and Dean Derose. Along w/ bassists Chris Berger or Neil Miner we were grooving!
Speaking of Dena check out her awesome new cd Love’s Holiday on Sharp 9. Also check out Conference Call on Soul Note and Tom Varners Second Communion on Omnitone.
Went down south for a residency at the U of Tennessee. Warm folks and great music.
Debuted a new band at a JazzComposers Collective Concert in Sept. Calling it FIELD TRIP w/ Matt Shulman and Luis Perdomo. Look for it in your town.
Did a great series on Monday hit at detour. W/ quartet and other configurations. Fun fun fun !
Nice evening in Boston w/ Dominique Eade w/ Kevin Hays and John Lockwood.

Awesome record dates w/ Bill Mays Trio and a new project of Ted Nash’s w/ Frank K., Ben and either Marcus Printemp or Wynton Marsalis.
Speaking of Nash an amazing week at the Vanguard with Odeon. Bill Schimmel rocks on accordion, Wycliffe Gordon is a bad dude on t-bone and sousaphone. Nathalie Bonin seriously ruled on violin. I recommended her for the gig after I heard her at the Interplay camp.
Hitting the road w/ Herbie Nichols Project and Denny Zeitlin Trio.in Nov and December.
Excited about the new cd HUMIDITY which comes out Feb 25. Catch us at the Jazz Standard in NYC Feb. 28-March 2. or in your town in 2003.

Keep in Touch!
